Read between the lines here.

We have a dad who is obviously very volatile and who apparently has a history of mental illness (notice the reference to him being "off his medication.") He is "suspected" of child sexual abuse--which seems pretty plausible given his subsequent reaction. When investigators come to his home, he holds the kids hostage at gun point till police managed to break in after Daddy's gun was fired.

But notice something else here. NUTCASE DADDY has, at minimum, out-of-state, visitation. Maybe even shared or full custody!

How do we know this? Again, check out Daddy's claim that "his wife in Idaho" hit him over the head with a pipe. Given Daddy's erratic behavior, I'm not sure I take this at face value. And even then, you can't help but wonder that even IF this was true, it was self-defense given how freaking nuts and violent he is. The reference to the "girlfriend" further substantiates that the parents are no longer together.

So let's ask what is left unasked here. Who gave this erratic, violent, very probably sexually abusive father custody rights? Who was the judge? Who supported this decision?

Once again, we see how lenient the courts are in giving abusive dangerous men full access to child victims, despite fathers rights whining to the contrary.

And how Mom has not lost HER custody rights because of freaking Daddy's actions. Why?

Dad is identified as BRIAN C. WILLIAMS.

ANACONDA — Five Anaconda children, including 8-month-old twins, are in the state's care after their father triggered an armed standoff with police.

The 38-year-old father is in jail on $75,000 on five charges of felony criminal endangerment - one for each child.

The late-night incident started with an anonymous call to authorities of possible sexual abuse at an East Fourth Street home. Anaconda Police Chief Tim Barkell said investigators with Child and Family Services went to the house at about 9 p.m. Sunday to speak with the father, Brian C. Chapman.

Barkell released details about the incident Wednesday, saying Chapman met the officials outside of the home, walked into the garage, grabbed a handgun and invited them into the house. Police were called to assist.

The welfare of the children aged 8 months, 4, 7, and 10, was in danger not only because he was now armed in the locked home, but had reportedly suffered a head injury and was off his medication.

"He told us he was beat over the head with a pipe by his wife in Idaho," Barkell said.

At this point, police contacted Chapman's girlfriend, who tried unsuccessfully to talk him down. Police continued to communicate with Chapman through a locked door.

The standoff was now into early Monday morning.

Barkell asked Chapman if he could talk to the children and asked if he was OK.

"If you don't back out of here, things aren't going to be alright," Barkell said Chapman responded.

A gunshot rang out.

"We didn't know if he shot a kid or shot himself," Barkell said.

Police busted through the front door. They grabbed the five children and ran from the home.

Chapman barricaded himself in the bathroom with the pistol. After about a half hour of talking with police through the door, Chapman gave up, leaving the gun in the bathroom. Officers took him into custody at about 1:45 a.m. Monday.

Barkell said officers suspect Chapman shot into the couch.

An investigation into the sexual abuse allegations will take place, he added.
